Interested versus COMMITTED!

Tell me if this sounds familiar…

You work really hard. Lose 10 pounds. Get distracted. Gain 10 pounds. Refocus and lose the same 10 pounds. Then have a bad weigh-in where you gain 2 pounds…and then it happens. THE WHEELS FALL OFF!

A few days, weeks, months or even years go by before you work up the gumption to tackle it again. Then you repeat the process over and over for much of your life! I LIVED THIS IN MY 30’S AND 40’S!

It was HARD to be 50 pounds overweight! Completely out of breath trying to chase my kids around. Sucking in all the time because I was so embarrassed. Sneaking food so others couldn’t see me shoving food in my face.

I was INTERESTED all those years. Would talk a big game. Tell Facebook what I was going to do. “Last year was the warm-up. This year I’m in the game” - blah, blah, blah. My Facebook memories remind me frequently how often I lied to myself. MY WORDS were rarely met with ACTION!

Fast forward to 8 years ago, I’m sitting on my couch with a giant tub of ice cream in my hands while I’m watching Bruce Pitcher’s Extreme Weight Loss episode. That was THE moment in my life when I drew a line in the sand and shifted from being INTERESTED to being truly COMMITTED!

I’ve lived in both of these worlds for many years so I feel uniquely qualified to talk about the characteristics of people that I see who are INTERESTED…

  1. INTERESTED people talk about what they are going to do.

  2. INTERESTED people usually work hard when the scale is cooperating.

  3. INTERESTED people usually give up the moment something goes wrong. The scale might have spiked up one time or they might have indulged in a ‘bad’ meal.

  4. INTERESTED people often complain about how the scale isn’t moving, but they won’t spend the 5 minutes needed every day to manage their nutrition.

Now, let’s talk about characteristics of people that I see who are truly COMMITTED…

  1. COMMITTED people back their talk up with ACTION!

  2. COMMITTED people get frustrated when the scale isn’t moving, but continue to go to battle every day to try and get a win.

  3. COMMITTED people run into all the same obstacles that everyone else runs into, but they pivot - figure out solutions, don’t play the victim card, have short memories when they make mistakes, don’t have two losing days in a row, DO WHAT THEY SAID THEY WERE GOING TO DO no matter what!

  4. COMMITTED people think about their nutrition for the day in advance. They know their numbers. THEY KNOW THEIR NUMBERS! (yeah, that sentence is in there twice on purpose!)

  5. COMMITTED people surround themselves with friends, mentors, coaches that are setting the example for what is possible. These people will lift you up when you are feeling down. They will kick you in the @$$ when you need it. They will encourage you and hold you accountable to do what you said you were going to do!

Being INTERESTED versus COMMITTED is something we talk a lot about in our Larger Than Life community! If you are tired of sitting on the sidelines and ready to level up your life, I have several suggestions for you.

1.       Join our FREE “Living Larger Than Life” Facebook group.  There are hundreds of people that are chasing the best version of themselves inside that group.

2.       Join our “Larger Than Life” coaching group.  We have a unique, very hands on, team of coaches that have all had AMAZING transformations themselves!  We know the daily struggle and have been there, done that!  THERE IS NOTHING LIKE IT IN THE WORLD!

3.       Reach out to me directly!  I am super-passionate about helping people live their best lives.  I’m happy to answer your questions.  Let me know here!
