Ugh! I Screwed Up Again!
Ugh! I screwed up again!
If you’re anything like me, you have committed to a nutrition plan a bazillion times in your life. AND you’ve also failed pretty close to the exact same amount of times.
Tell me if this sounds familiar. You have a party to go to that will have a lot of food temptations so you set some ground rules in your brain ahead of time. You load up on protein early in the day and even save some calories so you can partake in some of the goodness at the party.
You get there and execute the plan really well…until that little crack forms. You grab one handful of nuts with the INTENTION of stopping there. Then the second crack forms when you grab a chocolate chip cookie. Before you know it, those tiny cracks turn into a full-blown spider web of cracks and you’ve gone back to the food table a dozen times and eaten 5,000 calories in a few hours.
Ever done that? I have. Many times!
Then we feel like we screwed up so bad that we fall off the rails for the next week, month or even year! I’ve been there! I know exactly how it feels. The disgust. The shame. The restriction for the next day to try and make up for it. Sound familiar?
Well, the good news is there is a better way!
No one goes through a transformation journey for any length of time with a perfect record. We all make mistakes. That is how we learn.
Here’s my 1st rule after a ‘screw up’ – you HAVE to bounce back the very next day. The goal is to get a WIN each day, but in the event we have a ‘screw up’ or a LOSS, we are not allowed to have two losing days in a row.
Because two losing days in a row, turns into two losing weeks in a row, which turns into two losing months in a row, etc. WE BECOME LIKE A TURTLE ON OUR BACK – completely stuck and paralyzed. So it is IMPERATIVE that we bounce back immediately the next day and get a win.
We don’t have to punish ourselves by undereating the next day. No wallowing in pity. No poor is me attitude. We own our crap and simply execute the plan for the day. Yesterday is gone. Today is a new day and we grab the bull by the horns and execute the play to get a WIN for the day.
We’ll have many more losses on our journey. That is just part of the game. So this concept is really important to grasp for long-term success. Now, GO WIN THE DAY!
